Caring for an aging parent is not simply something I understand—it is something that shaped who I am.

When I was 15, my life changed after my mother experienced a brain injury. At an age when most teenagers were discovering who they wanted to become, my sisters and I were learning how to care for someone we loved. We helped with appointments and everyday needs, spent countless hours in hospitals, and faced situations no child—or family—ever feels prepared for.

There is no playbook for the moment your parent begins to need you in a different way. There is no guide for balancing the appointments, decisions, responsibilities, and fear while still trying to be their daughter. You simply do the best you can, driven by love, often wondering whether you are making the right choices.

Over the years, I have watched friends experience that same uncertainty as their own parents moved in and out of hospitals. I have seen the exhaustion of trying to hold everything together and the worry that comes from not knowing where to turn. I know what it feels like to wish someone trustworthy would step in, help carry the details, and say, “You don’t have to figure this out alone.”

That is why Nest Well is so personal to me.

I know the level of care I want for my own mother—the patience, dignity, tenderness, and attention I would hope someone would give her when I could not be there. I believe every family deserves the reassurance of knowing their loved one is being treated with that same thoughtfulness.

I have also learned that older adults are among our greatest storytellers and wisest teachers. Behind every face is a lifetime of love, sacrifice, humor, resilience, and memories worth hearing. They deserve more than assistance. They deserve to feel seen, valued, respected, and remembered.

Nest Well was created from that love: to honor older adults, support the families who care deeply for them, and help make a difficult journey feel a little less overwhelming—and a lot less lonely.
